The Bible – The Bible is the inerrant Word of God. It is His revelation to people. All Christian teachings are based on the Bible. All doctrines and dogma must be judged by it. The Holy Spirit worked through people to produce the Bible. It is our authority. Truth does not contradict the Bible, and the Bible does not contradict truth.
Revelation – By revelation God disclosed Himself and His will to us. He does this in order to produce for Himself a people. He does it in order to reveal the aspects of His character in which we are created. He has used events in history, angelic messengers, prophets, creation, natural phenomena, dreams, signs and miracles to reveal Himself. But full revelation of God comes only through Jesus. Our basic source of revelation is the Bible. Any “new” revelation will build on, support, and be supported by, previous revelation. Since God reveals truth about Himself, and by definition truth cannot change, then present-day revelations will not deviate from what has been revealed before.
History – Time is linear. By creating the world and all in it, God –alone—stands outside of time. Therefore, only God can orchestrate events throughout history as part of the revelation of Himself. Through the incarnation of Jesus, God fully revealed Himself into human history. History, then, is not a continuing cycle of events ending in nowhere. It is the beginning point of God’s revelation to us, His response to us, and His salvation for us.
