One distinctive of Destination God is the knowledge and practice of sound, orthodox, Bible doctrine. We need to know Bible doctrine, practice Bible doctrine, apply Bible doctrine, share Bible doctrine, explain Bible doctrine, and defend Bible doctrine.
The life of vintage faith is not just one of saying a little prayer, and then going on with your life. It is not just one of showing up at a church meeting every once-in-a-while, or even every week, performing a few “spiritual aerobics”, and then going on with your life. It is not one of just saying a prayer at meals or bedtime, and then going on with your life. It is not just one reading the Bible for a little while, and then going on with your life.
The life of vintage faith is one of knowing the truth and being set free by that truth. It is one of knowing what you believe and believing what you know. It is one of hearing the Word and being transformed by what you hear. It is one of standing up for the One who laid down for you. The life of vintage faith is not just going on with your life. It is your life.
Destination God believes that in order to live a life of true, vintage faith, we need to know the foundations of that faith. This foundation centers around 6 major doctrinal themes: the Trinity, the world, the knowledge of God, salvation, the church, and our role in the world. Intertwined in those themes will be topics such as miracles, evil and suffering, sin, the Scriptures, ethics, worship, prayer, church leadership, family, evangelism, and missions.
This will not be an extensive treatise on Bible doctrine. The scriptures referenced will not be an exhaustive list. What it will be is a description of the doctrine. Various scriptures will be referenced. And, most importantly, appropriate applications will be presented.
Be aware, though, that is entirely possible to engage in the foolish pursuit of arguments over doctrine. Destination God does not intend to wade into those arguments. Our time is much better spent living out this doctrine in the world. However, as much as we will attempt to describe the central, indisputable, theme of each doctrine with impartiality, particular slants are nearly inevitable. Fortunately, as long as the central issue of who Jesus is and what true salvation is, is not involved, we can sometimes agree to disagree on the particulars.
But, I do invite you to search it out for yourself. Don’t take my word, or any other preacher’s word, for it blindly. Read a little, research a little, and pray a lot.
